a red HOT find ...

My husband was so excited when finding this fire hydrant!
We got a pretty good deal on it, and he's oh so very excited to "redo" it!
These of course are the before pictures....

 Him working on it,
he's going to get all the rust off and wants to repaint it,
and make it shiny new again.

Some of the progress:: :)

Have you ever seen some painted before???
Here's a few pictures I found online, I'm not sure what we might do with ours, but he's excited!
I was more excited about my finds that day, but happy for him to get excited about something that he found, ya know :)
Booth these two photos: ^ \/ via Google images :)

So after seeing some neat images of what we could do, the possibilities are endless really, but I was actually thinking maybe one all painted up would look kinda neat in a flower bed with either matching, mismatching, or some  color coordinating flowers, and other decorations in there might look kind of neat!?!??

I hope you all have a wonderful day, wishing you with some creativeness!

Smiles, Holly

  2. I think it would be a great piece of yard art! During the bicentennial there were plenty of Americana fire hydrants! That will be a fun to plan and paint! A couple project!

  4. I had problems with the neighborhood dogs marking their territory in the same spot by my arbor. They killed everything I've planted there. I looked for a fire hydrant to put their instead - if you can't beat them, join them! I'm very envious. I've never found one.

  5. Now that's one thing I have never seen on my "hunts". Very very cool. I think it would be neat in the house too.

  6. Oh, what a great find. I can see why he would be so excited in finding such a treasure. I would be also.
Easy way to remove rust is soak in solution of molasses (molasses used was from a stock feed store) and water...1 part molasses to 10 parts water and letting it soak for a few days.

    1. Thanks for coming by and asking! But we have not finished it yet! There's always so many things we want to do and get done, it might have to wait til spring with our temps already in the upper 20s in the evenings (when hubby gets off work and has some time) :) xxo
